The smallest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. John is truly one of the most enchanting spots in the Caribbean. Through the years, its beauty has remained virtually unchanged. Snorkel gear wearers and colorful kayakers not withstanding, a goodly portion of St. John appears as it did when Christopher Columbus and his crew first sighted the island more than 500 years ago.
With its lush mountains sloping down to white beaches and picture-postcard bays, it is little wonder why St. John, VI is the preferred getaway for those-in-the-know. Exploration here is a total joy. Two-thirds of the island is a national park — including the remains of the treasured Annaberg Sugar Plantation. By far the island’s most popular beach is Trunk Bay, site of a renowned underwater snorkel trail. An array of submerged plaques identifies the corals and fish that inhabit these waters.
